Not Much Going On

Well Happy Sweetest Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I went to Weight Watchers and we will see what happens. I need to work on my motivation. I have been trying to get ready for the big challenges and the long journey I will be making with weight loss but I have been down on myself because it is going to be a long journey. It's depressing to think about how much I have to lose.

My x-rays results of my left foot came in and I have not one but two bone spurs all be it one is tiny per the doctor. Size does not matter though...it is causing a lot of pain. Now she is sending me to the podiatrist. I will probably have to have x-rays taken of my right foot as I have been having pain in both. The doctor only ordered the x-rays on my left foot because she figured it hurt worse so we could see the problems and then she would send me to the podiatrist if it was spurs. Well now I need to find a doctor and hopefully one who is close to home. My doctor is about 1/2 hour away from our house. Not bad but there are doctors closer. I really miss my old doctor...she moved on to working in a hospital so she was no longer taking patients obviously.

I haven't worked on any of the quilt tops I made. I have been thinking about my quilt room and I am hoping my husband and I can work in there sometime this weekend or next weekend. With Mark working on Saturdays that leaves us Sundays and that's not a lot of time. I know tomorrow part of the day he is going to spend with his brother working out in our garage...I will be watching the kids. I was going to clean the house while Eric (Mark's brother) was here but now I will be watching the kids in the morning.

I just bought the book The Secret...it was suggested by the leaders of my WW group. They suggested it because I have been down for a while about my weight and they think it will help me form a more positive attitude about it (weight loss). Has anyone read it and do they have any suggestions? Also I am trying to figure out some rewards for weight loss...so far I have come up with a manicure, a pedicure, a massage, a book, a dvd, a cd, okay I need help from there. Any ideas.

Sorry this is off topic but just needed to aske some questions and to vent a little. Well I am going to try putting my feet up and see if that helps with the pain...yikes I didn't know this would get so bad.

Maureen, I had a bone spur one time. I had the chiropractor xray it. He had me step in a mold thing, and ordered me a special insert for my shoe. The insert had a space removed from it so that no pressure would be where the spur was. In time, it went away, because it was not being aggravated. It has not returned. Have you talked about special inserts?

Hang in there Maureen everything will work out. I'm like you I battle with weight loss and usually I end up loosing. Maybe we can support each other?
I have spurs in my right foot. I was sent to a foot specialist years ago and had special inserts made. They helped so much but in time they wore out and they were way too expensive to replace. Now I just keep buying new tennis shoes and always running shoes since they pitch you forward off of the heel spurs. I also buy really cushy heel inserts for my shoes and replace them often. At times they are worse than other times but tylenol or advil seems to help a little.

Yes Bone spurs are painfull, I hope you can get some relief, as far as rewards for weight loss, you pretty much named the ones I like, how about maybe buying yourself something new to wear, something special or that fabric you really want!

Here I am again with another comment. I know you will probably think this is an 'old lady' comment, but believe me, I am the queen of ugly, W-I-D-E W-I-D-E
feet. Years ago, like over 20 years ago, so I was only about 30, my brother turned me on to SAS shoes. For me, they are the best. How about finding a shoe store that sells them, have yourself fitted by one of the employees, and pick a style you like, and feels good and buy a pair and try them. I don't try to make a fashion statement, so I usually wear the FreeTime shoes. They are a casual shoe, and they tie. Yes, they are over $100, but I have worn them for over 20 years now. I don't wear anything else. I wear them to work, and I work on concrete floors 10 hours a day. They are lightweight, and so comfortable. I'm sure your tennis shoes are not cheap, so just for me, just once, will you try this brand? Ok, so you see a lot of older people wearing them......THEY KNOW THE SECRET!!!!! And, they are also approved by Medicare, and they are rated for use by diabetics! That should be a reason to try them in itself.

Ok, I am NOT affiliated with SAS, I just know what feels good and what works for ME! You know, it has been over 20 years since I had my heel spur........so what do you think? Is it worth a try?

Oh, I forgot. My husband does not have trouble with his feet, but he wears them too. Not fulltime like I do, but he definately wears them to work, and he is on his feet all day long like I am. He says they are the most comfortable he has found too.

I'm with you on the weight loss. Keep up the motivation! I had a friend who bought a fat quarter for every pound she lost. Then she made a quilt with them to remember that time in her life. I'm trying to loose to look better for my wedding, but it's a constant battle. Set goals and good luck!

The fat quarter per pound thing is a good idea. You could make yourself a really cool quilt. If everything goes as planned I'm headed to WW on Tuesday after work. Of course, if everything goes to hell in a handbasket who knows.

Oh, and seriously, try a pair of crocs, they just might help take some of the pressure off. I had spurs in the balls of my feet for years and I'm finally to the point where I only have flare ups once in a while. But the crocs help keep those flare ups at bay.

Well, I sure hope you are feeling better. I know weight can be depressing. I sure need to lose some too. But I just never seem to get motivated. I've never had a bone spur, but have heard that they are very painful.

I love reading your posts.

Maureen,
I was going to suggest fabric as an incentative but I really like the fq for each pound lost and then make a quilt from them. I might even use that One because I really need to lose pounds as well.
Good luck.
